Cambodia's Signature Rice Ramps Up Exports as Philippine Demand Surges
Signature Rice plans to ship up to 100,000 tonnes of rice to the Philippines in 2027 as Cambodia's overall rice exports surge nearly 68 percent year-on-year.
Signature Rice, among Cambodia's top rice exporters, is accelerating shipments to the Philippines as the Southeast Asian neighbor's appetite for imported grain continues to grow.
The company loaded 5,000 tonnes onto a vessel at Kampot port on November 2, forming part of a planned 20,000-tonne direct shipment to the Philippines this month. It intends to maintain the same pace through November and December.
Looking ahead, Signature Rice has set an ambitious 2027 target of shipping 100,000 tonnes of rice to the Philippine market, which would elevate the country to one of its biggest export destinations.
Bulk Shipping as a Competitive Edge
Chan Pich, general manager of Signature Rice, said that transporting rice in full vessels rather than containers fundamentally alters the economics for both the company and its buyers.
"Delivery times are shorter, and buyers receive a single large consignment of uniform quality, which makes Cambodian rice more competitive in the Philippines," he said. "We can ship 5,000 tonnes at a time and are prepared to do so on a weekly basis. Our goal is to become a reliable, long-term supplier rather than a sporadic one."
Booming Philippine Import Market
The Philippines was projected to bring in a record 5.5 million tonnes of rice in 2026. Cambodia has been capturing a growing share of that demand — the Cambodia Rice Federation reported 122,102 tonnes shipped to the Philippines in the first eight months of 2026, with full-year exports on track to reach roughly 209,000 tonnes.
Bilateral ties in the agricultural sector received a formal boost when Cambodian Agriculture Minister Dith Tina and Philippine Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. signed a memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation during a meeting in Manila in February 2025.
Cambodia's Broader Rice Export Boom
The push toward the Philippines also supports Cambodia's longstanding government goal of exporting one million tonnes of rice per year, a target first established in 2015.
Overall, Cambodian rice exports have been surging. According to the Cambodia Rice Federation, the country shipped 792,212 tonnes to international markets during the first eight months of 2026 — a striking 67.5 percent increase compared to the same period a year earlier.
