Cambodia's National Bank Places Chief Bank Under Administration
Cambodia's central bank has placed Chief Bank under three-month provisional administration due to regulatory compliance gaps, appointing Baker Tilly to assess the institution's financial and operational status.
The National Bank of Cambodia has placed Chief (Cambodia) Commercial Bank Plc under provisional administration for three months due to regulatory compliance shortcomings discovered during a review.
Baker Tilly (Cambodia) Plc was designated as the provisional administrator effective September 21, with a mandate to evaluate the bank's financial and operational standing. The administrator will submit findings to the central bank, which will determine what additional actions may be necessary.
During this period, the provisional administrator holds full operational control of Chief Bank, including the authority to manage all activities, pause certain withdrawals, and reduce unnecessary spending. Existing borrowers remain obligated to continue their loan payments as scheduled.
Anyone seeking information about the administration can reach Baker Tilly at their Borey Elwing office via phone at 023 987 100 or email at info@bakertilly.com.kh.
This action is part of a broader regulatory crackdown that began in late 2025. The central bank has revoked licenses from multiple institutions, including Prince Bank, Panda Bank, CCU Commercial Bank Plc, Heng Feng (Cambodia) Bank Plc, and HH (Cambodia) Bank Plc, following investigations into operational irregularities involving suspected money laundering and online fraud networks.
